Hello fellow sailors,

The sailing section of AOW from Thales UK are organizing the XXIVth edition of the Inter Thales sailing Regatta.
The Regatta will take place this year on the South Coast of the UK, in the Solent between Cowes on the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. The Solent is the home of the famous Cowes week and provides a challenging sailing environment.

The Regatta will take place between Thursday 4th and Sunday 7th October, 2018.

The Regatta will consist of two fleets of boats:

  • Fleet One will be a one design fleet using 27 Sunsail First 40 boats. These boats can sleep up to 8 people.
  • Fleet Two will consist of up to 15 racer/cruiser IRC boats, with similar boat types as previous Inter-Thales Regattas

The number of boats is limited, and the boats will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The Regatta program will consist of:

Wednesday 3rd – Boats will be available at Port Solent from 19:00 and the crews will be able to sleep on the boats.

Thursday 4th, Practice “round the cans” Races in the Solent, then back to Portsmouth or Hamble. After sail gathering.

Friday 5th, Regatta Day 1 with at least 3 “round the cans” Races , back to Cowes. After sail gathering.

Saturday 6th, Regatta Day 2 with at least 3 Races around the cans, back to Cowes for presentation night.

Sunday 7th, Post Regatta race back to Port Solent.

We are currently planning the entertainment and these will be announced nearer the Regatta.

The price of the Regatta is a maximum of £2700.

This budget includes:

the registration,
the charter of the boat and sunsail support team,
the race team,
a crew of 8,
marina fees,
breakfast and lunches,
after sail gatherings on the Thursday and Friday,
the meal of the crew on the Saturday evening.

Discount is available for smaller crews down to a crew of 6.

For a crew of 7 the Regatta price is reduced by £100 to £2600

For a crew of 6 the Regatta price is reduced by £200 to £2500.

It is posible to charter the boats on a daily basis, 19:00 to 19:00 prior to the Regatta for sailing practice.

A deposit of £500 is required to reserve a boat before 22nd December 2017. We appreciate that the timescales are short.

The final balance is due by the end of June 2018. The final balance payment will NOT exceed the price advertised but may be less.

To enable the early payment of the deposit, if individuals have to pay the deposit out of their own bank accounts while waiting for their payment to be processed by the organisation paying for their team’s entry,  we will refund the money back to their bank account once we receive the deposit from the organisation paying for their team’s entry.

We have set up a bank account for the event.

It would be preferable for payment to be made by bank transfer in £ sterling. The bank informed us that it will be possible to pay by bank transfer in Euros, although the exchange rates will change. If you want to pay by cheque then this is possible in both £ sterling and Euros.

See the registration page for registration and payment information.

For terms and conditions of the Sunsail 40 boat charter please visit the Sunsail website.

If you intend to take part in the Regatta please complete the booking form and send it back to us. We understand that you can not pay yet but a commitment would be appreciated.

We have access to the Inter-Thales website and will make all forms and information available there.

Additional information:

You do not need to be a member of any sailing organisation to participate, eg. FFV. This will save the cost of temporary membrship of the FFV.

Accommodation is on the boats so there is no cost in additional accommodation costs.

IMPORTANT – In order to charter the boats the skipper and one of their crew must have the required sailing experience, there is no need for qualifications. If you are in doubt of your experience please check with us and we will check with the charter company.

It may be possible to sleep on the boat on Sunday 7th October if you are travelling back on the Monday. This is subject to the boats not being chartered on the Monday.

There are supermarkets, shops, pubs and cafes near to each of the marinas we visit

Brittany ferries are located in Portsmouth, please look at their web site. Once in Portsmouth there is no need for a car because the boat is only a short distance from the ferry terminal.

If you are travelling by air, Southampton airport is close to where the boat is located.

Further details will be sent nearer the event.

Any questions please do no hesitate to contact us.
